Waiting for Godot: A Tragicomedy in Two Acts
A Grove Press paperback of Samuel Beckett's 1952 tragicomedy, in which two men pass the time beside a tree while waiting for someone who never arrives. The play is short, the dialogue loops back on itself, and the stage directions are as carefully stripped as the set. The Grove edition is the standard acting text, with the plain cover and thin paper of a book that expects to be annotated, underlined, and argued about in rehearsal. Ideal reader: the reader who suspects that what happens on stage matters less than how the waiting is endured, or the actor looking for a role that consists mostly of not leaving.
