Dickens built this one to last—over a thousand pages that feel necessary, not excessive. The legal case at the center devours everything around it, like rot spreading through good wood. Characters appear, disappear, reappear changed. The fog that opens the book never really lifts. This is for readers with patience and appetite, who want their novels to contain entire worlds. People who don't mind when a story sprawls as long as it sprawls with purpose. The binding has to be strong to hold all this.
